I am using SA in OO> conjunction with Mailscanner I can't say anything about plain numbers, since I don't know how much spam exists in your 8000. Before doing any tweaking here, SA flagged well over 90% of all spam sent to a dozen different email addresses. I've now expanded SA's coverage to around 50 email addresses, and it catches over 95%, probably 98% to 99% of all spam. If yours isn't then make sure the network checks are enabled (they flag loads of spam by themselves), and activate Bayes learning and testing. Unless you're at/near 90%, I wouldn't look at "tightening things up", but rather turning on those features you don't yet have active.
