This has happened a few times: when a message is retrieved from the upstream POP server with a large attachment (100K), my local copy of SA takes 50 seconds or so to process it. I am using Procmail to filter deliver the messages locally -- not passing them on to another MDA.
During the 50-second processing time, fetchmail is holding the connection to the POP server open, and the POP server times out before SA finishes. As a result, the POP server is never told that the message was successfully downloaded, so the message stays on the server and is downloaded again and again and again. I just had to manually intervene after a particular message was retrieved 974 times. What is the best way to deal with this? Is there a setting to force SA to return a result after a certain number of seconds, whether it's done processing or not? Or to speed up processing of these large messages? Or to check if a particular message has already been seen? Or to solve the issue in some other clever way; perhaps a Procmail workaround? I am running SA 2.54 on a Mandrake 8.2 machine. I can attach a sample of a message that caused this problem if that would be helpful. Help is very much appreciated.
