however, blocking entire IP classes such as 61.*.*.* is, in my opinion, a
very narrow minded thing to do. keep in mind that the internet is a global
entity, and by blocking that particular IP class, you'll have blocked me
from being able to reply to you.
just because a "large amount" of spam comes from network X doesn't mean that
everyone using that IP block is a spammer, or that you have no reason to
receive email from anyone on that block.
for example, i'm an american living in japan. My server is in japan, I
regularly correspond with people in the US by way of email. Also, I have
mail users who still reside in the US using my mail server for their mail.
also consider that a great deal of spam comes from.... you guessed it, the
USA. if you're gonna block entire IP blocks due to spam control, you should
just unplug the network cable from your machine.
anyways, that's my opinion. I figured it was about time to voice it as
nothing annoys me more than having my legitimate mail rejected JUST BECAUSE
I LIVE IN JAPAN.
