I managed to locate the problem. After removing the following files from the filter's
~/.spamassassin/ catalog, the load and memory usage is back to normal.

-rw------- 1 filter filter 225 Jul 4 09:34 bayes_msgcount
-rw------- 1 filter root 5251072 Jul 4 09:33 bayes_seen
-rw------- 1 filter filter 42831872 Jul 4 09:33 bayes_toks
-rw------- 1 filter filter 6459392 Jul 4 09:35 bayes_toks.new

Is it safe to assume that some of the bayes files was corrupt in some way after I did
the upgrade?

Regards, Thomas

Subject: [SAtalk] Excessive CPU / RAM after upgrade to 2.55

We've been running Spamassassin for about 3 months now. Up till yesterday we used
v2.50 which has worked flawlessly. The server is a P400 MHz/256 MB Ram. Load has been
around 0.20-0.40. we receive about 80000 mails a month.

However, after I did the upgrade to 2.55 yesterday, the mail server is having a very
hard time keeping up. This is due to the fact that for some strange reason spamd is
using most of the available memory and most of the swap space (even with only 3
processes of spamd). Load has been up to 12, but goes from about 2.50 to 6 on average.
I used the SRPM file to re compile to RPM files on the Redhat 7.3 system.
Here is the output of top when spamd has been running for a short while (15 min).

Mem: 255620K av, 252164K used, 3456K free, 0K shrd, 724K buff
Swap: 522104K av, 520816K used, 1288K free 5428K cached
PID USER PRI NI SIZE RSS SHARE STAT %CPU %MEM TIME COMMAND
3165 filter 15 0 342M 119M 2008 R 5.8 47.7 4:08 spamd
13013 filter 15 0 342M 67M 1988 R 0.1 27.0 4:50 spamd
13000 root 15 0 17176 2000 1996 S 0.0 0.7 0:01 spamd
Anyone got any good ideas as to what this can be?
