I used to disagree, but with the strategy employed by worms and such that
you described it makes less sense than it used to. Although just last week
someone thanked me for notifying of the virus on his machine he hadn't known
about.

Not only does it accept mails from non-members, but it also accepts
attachments. At least the latter should not be allowed IMHO
