In invoking SA via amavisd-new I don't believe there's anything on amavis' end thats needs to be changed. Below is a copy of my local.cf - from looking over the man page this would appear to be enough to rewrite the subject header - but messages w/ hits greater then 3 aren't touched.
I think your basic assumption is incorrect. I believe that if you are calling SA from amavisd-new, it is amavisd-new that tags the subject, not SA.
This is pretty typical for apps that call SA directly at the API layer.. they wind up calling SA as a library, but build their own mail headers and don't let SA modify the email directly.
MailScanner behaves the same way. It calls SA, but does not use SA's markups and instead builds its own.
