I am running the CVS 2.50 SpamAssassin from 2 days ago

When I run the command /etc/init.d/spamassassin restart spamd begins to accumulate in the process list.  When I check the mail error log, I see:

spamc[21775]: connect() to spamd at 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (1/3): Connection refused
spamc[21775]: connect() to spamd at 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (2/3): Connection refused
spamc[21775]: connect() to spamd at 127.0.0.1 failed, retrying (3/3): Connection refused
spamc[21775]: connection attempt to spamd abborted after 3 retries

I am not seeing any errors for spamd, and the spamd processes start for each spamc request.  The spamd processes are not goingaway, they are not zombies, and they are using processor resources.  When I tried to ride them out, eventually they locked up the machine...

If I do a hard reboot, everything comes up nice and runs fine...  This problem only occurs when "spamassassin restart" is issued.  The init script I am using is the redhat init script from the package.  I have not modified it in any way, other than the name (for convenience).

It appears that when I restart spamd, it is not listening to localhost by default.  any ideas?
