Perhaps the SA website should have "success stories".  I would nominate this one :)

Would be good for individuals like Stephane.

Stephane,

We have over 10,000 active mailboxes on our mail server, and we successfully
implemented SpamAssassin + Amavis on it. We run Postfix on FreeBSD. The
server is a DELL dual xeon 1.8Ghz, 2Gb RAM, 130Gb SCSI RAID5.

Amavis runs as a content filter (all email gets scanned by it).

SpamAssassin runs via the MDA, in the final delivery. We run the
spamd/spamc setup. We also run header/body checks via postfix for common
spam addresses/phrases this rejects the message in the MTA stage, rather
than the MDA stage.

Customers get the choice of Spam On/Off and we'll add addresses to the
global whitelists if a customer requests and it fits the criteria. they do
not currently have per user options.

The server sends averages of 750,000 emails, and receives 1,200,000 emails
weekly. Of this 1500 are viruses, and 170,000 are spam. The server has
peaked at receiving 800 messages per minute without any major issues, (very
high load average, but still coped with the load).

The same server does ALL mail processes, there is not a seperate gateway.

Subject: [SAtalk] has a large company implemented spamassassin ?

Hello,

Our company has got a large number of mailboxes (more than 20000) and is

looking at implementing spamassassin for its spam filtering. Of course with
this number of email addresses the servers receiving the internet email will
be big dual or quad processors boxes with lots or memory (planned OS will be
SuSE Linux Enterprise 8).

I would be interested in knowing if there is a similar large company (>

5000 mailboxes) having successfully implemented spamassassin in order to
share the experience -- we had a successful pilot running and would like to
go live in one month.

Regards,
Stephane
