Depends on how you incorporate it into your mail server.

I use it with amavisd-new and postfix on a similar machine (only 768
MB RAM) with a wicked fast disk.

If I turn of network checks, it takes about 50ms to 300ms per message
to process thru SA.

The combo of amavisd-new and postfix is great in that you can limit
the resources you allocate to filtering.
