I posted this problem to the list on 9-29-02, and did get a suggestion that perhaps a double-call to procmail would be causing the problem I'm having. The reasons why I don't believe that this is the case: 1. no mention of procmail in the sendmail.cf 2. the problem is not constant, seems to occur rather randomly. Wouldn't this problem be continual if I had the double-procmail setup?
The setup: .forward points into .procmailrc, which calls spamc -f. Running spamd 2.50-cvs at this point sendmail 8.12.5 Freebsd 4.6-Release Below is a full copy of one of the messages that bounced. Unchecked, these appear to loop continually (getting rebounced and accruing bounce headers) until I shut down sendmail/spamd, and clean the cruft from the mail queues on the other servers. If I don't do the cleanout job, when I flush the queues it seems like spamc on the target server (the only one currently running spamc/d) fails again, beginning the process anew. Any other suggestions as to what might be causing this problem?
