Hi Keith, > I just got spamass milter working with sendmail 8.12, good enough, > interesting installing latest sendmail and everything, but i have to ask > myself what's the point?
I also did some tests with Spamassassin-Milter on Sendmail 8.12.3. I usually run spamd/spamc on SUN/Cobalt RaQs with Sendmail 8.10.2 and also have emails checked for virii with Amavis and Kaspersky Labs AV. Performance wise the Milter approach seems to be faster on first glimpse (both for Spam detection and for virus checks). But one of the biggest backdraws appears to be that Spamassassin-Milter bugs out when a message larger than 250K is dumped its way. And those emails are then discarded. See below for a reference to the trouble ticket: http://savannah.gnu.org/support/?func=detailsupport&support_id=100437&group_id=1083 With Spamd/Spamc messages which exceed a certain size (250k is the default) just get dumped back into the delivery process and end up in the mailbox unchecked. Which isn't that bad as SPAM is rarely larger than 40k. Milter can't do that for you as it appears. So for a productive environment or server wide installation Spamassassin-Milter is IMHO not yet useable unless that message size limit is worked out properly. -- With best regards, Michael Stauber [EMAIL PROTECTED] Unix/Linux Support Engineer _______________________________________________________________ Don't miss the 2002 Sprint PCS Application Developer's Conference August 25-28 in Las Vegas -- http://devcon.sprintpcs.com/adp/index.cfm _______________________________________________ Spamassassin-talk mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/listinfo/spamassassin-talk
