As far as procmail goes, it just uses what was passed to it. I use procmail
as my local delivery agent with sendmail and my sendmail daemon spits
out a 'From ' line. If that doesn't exist in the resulting mbox files then things
break horribly.

Sounds like this is the correct approach to me. Systems either expect
or do not expect this header and if messages come in in the wrong
state bad things happen!
