Yes, you are. I have a Master's degree in biology and can ID a Black Widow
when I see one, even the males. I even captured one and took it in to the
hospital so they would believe me. :-P I lived on a canyon and hunted them
in dark places in my yard but more always came in. Now I live where there
are no BWS and no rattlesnakes. Sigh of relief.

Try googling "black widow spider bite". Here is one website that explains it:
http://www.desertusa.com/july97/du_bwindow.html

"The venom of the black widow spider is 15 times as toxic as the venom of
the prairie rattlesnake.

Black Widow spiders are not usually deadly, especially to adults, because
they inject only a small amount of venom."

Nancy
Reports of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Are you sure this was a Black Widow?
I was under the understanding that one bite is lethal to a human. It is a
neurotoxin paralysis to the nervous system and kills within 15-20 minutes.

Am I mistaken?
