I think that most of the constraints against eating pork is due to the pig being almost exactly like people..behaviour patterns and all.. with many organisms liking both as a host equally.
Royal Raymond Rife, Virginia Livingston-Wheeler, and other scientists pointed out how pigs and humans both harbored the same microbes. You can grow the cancer virus in a pig really easily. For that reason, Rife suggested not eating any pig flesh.
Perhaps this intuitive knowledge is the basis for religious proscriptions from eating pig.
