For the record, you may have meant "GERMAN SILVER" instead of Mexican. All
the Mexican silver I have ever seen or handled is good! Much of it is marked
'TAXCO' which is a city in Mexico where silver production began in the
1500/1600's.
Further, the addition of nickel metal to harden the alloy may be the source

In my neck of the woods, faux silver is called "Mexican." Just proves that
you need to ask what the composition of the silver is; that's the important
thing.
Someone sent me a message off-list, by the way, and mentioned that sterling
silver jewelry contains lots of copper, and that is usually what causes the
irritation.
