i speculate the real problem was with "butyl nitrate"  instead of amytal
nitrate.   The amytal nitrate was a prescription item, and alot of nite
clubs sold butyl nitrate (also known as locker room in the industrial
cleaning chemical industry) which was not a controlled substance.
