I also tried to purify what was poured off the same way in a second bottle, and succeeded to some extent, but the second batch still had some of the smell. I went ahead and used that and could still smell/taste the characteristic disgusting smell/taste but, when that was finished and I went back to the first batch of pruified DMSO, I was very surprised that I could detect almost none of the taste/smell upon using it. I haven't used it orally though, and I don't swallow it. People that need to use a lot of DMSO or take it orally should definitely try this method, if only out of respect for other people. I think that second batch could have been further purified by doing the process again, and perhaps adding a couple of percent (by volume) of distilled water and shaking before refreezing to dissolve out the impurities. It freezes in the refrigerator, not the freezer. You don't want to get it cold enough to freeze the water. Also, it works better if there is not too much water in the mix.
