I don't know if this is a function of being back or that you've been in an academic setting for 11 years. I felt similarly when I got back as well (though I did spend the first couple of years in academia here). But later on I realised that academia isn't necessarily where you meet intellectuals (..often not at all). Sometimes it's just one's outlook... There are lots of very bright people in all walks of life. The other day I met someone who was firguring out a new way of enhancing primary healtchare in rural India: easily one of the brighter people I've met. Last week I also met a so called 'genius' from academia who made one of the worst fund-raising pitches I've heard in a long time. Adit. -- "Science flies man to the moon.
