Unlike some of the earlier films, the art direction lacked style. Gotham City looked like it was shot in the same urban neighborhoods as "Streets of San Francisco? without the hills. It seemed a city without substance, and even the seedy docks were neat and tidy. Putting Batman in temporary

Chicago tends to be like that.

Christian Bale isnt my first choice for Batman. Michael Caine is always a
pleasure to watch, and Heath Ledger was outstanding .. if only because the
jerks and twitches in his body, his frequent facial tics and mannerisms
(licking his tongue etc) are also fairly similar to what you'd get from
OD'ing on antidepressant / anticonvulsant meds.

showed some potential, but by failing to write Batman a suitable response, an opportunity to delineate the issue was allowed to pass.

Batman was way too wooden (or maybe titanium dipped carbon fiber) to react
humanly to it. Strong silent figures can be overdone, and Christian Bale's
batman does suffer from that, a lot.

Gary Oldman could have had a much juicier role playing twoface .. anyway it
isnt that possible to guess age when half your face is burned away. And its
a pity they didnt give twoface the potential he had, I suppose they didnt
want any distractions stealing the thunder from Joker
