After many years I find myself needing to exchange data with a computer in a 
hospital that I visit. 

I am normally paranoid about this sort of stuff - and I believe my paranoia is 
justified. One try with a pen drive convinced me that the only way to port my 
data to any other computer is via CD (or via email) and the only way I will 
accept data from someone is via email. 

This behavior is mostly OK for my needs. Pen drive sharing is a disaster 
waiting to happen. You're probably lucky if it's only your pen drive that 
goes kaput. It's worse if it works and gives your machine the kiss of death.
