Nope, as it happens, and for what it's worth. 'Toady' is an abbreviation of
'toad-eater', who was a quack's assistant - but Comrade Haynes has said it all
already. Not a 'mondegreen'. Bit old-fashioned, I suppose, but apt enough in
the context, I thought. Anyway, I wasn't aiming for effect; that's the way I
write and speak.
