Unfortunately, since Lotus Organiser is hardly ever addressed, Outlook is the
default PIM.

These are not Windows Mobile specific. My Sony Ericsson P990i
(Symbian) has both these issues - bad battery life and lack of File >
Exit in almost all applications (except some 3rd-party apps like the
Gmail client).

Ah. I maintain a master address book in Microsoft Outlook. All my
mobile phones so far (at the moment I have two due to reasons beyond
my control) could sync via bluetooth/infrared/USB from that master
copy, so I didn't ever mind a sudden change in handset/SIM/provider. I
suggest you do the same (find a decent PIM which can sync with your
choice of mobile phone, that is).

has become invaluable to me.
