If the pots are actually cleaned regularly, yes. Mud pots and candle
filters (with two sticks of a porous rock - limestone or something) have
that same problem.

Bacteria / algae tend to collect, and mineral deposits (so called "hard
water") and any chemical / particulate pollutants in the water tend to
deposit themselves on the surface of the filtering medium (the unglazed
mud, or the limestone)
