A friend from off-list had this to add: "It's really hard to identify insects off pictures and in this one i cant even make out where the scutellum ends and head begins...if the thing is front sticking out is the rostrum then belongs to the family of weevils (curculionidae), but then again overtall it looks like a shield bug or scutellaridae (so caled because the scutellum extends a fair bit over the body)."
