I'd like to see these programs for Linux. I have
to boot to the "Dark Side" to use them:
(1) a program to create and print greeting cards.
It should be easy to use and provide dozens templates
and clip art for various types
of cards, e.g., birthday, holiday, Valentine's day, etc.
A set of Gimp templates would be a
mimimalist solution, but would be more difficult to
use than the cheapware programs available for Windows.
The greeting card program shouldn't require a web server or
an Internet connection.
(2) a program like Microsoft Publisher. I'm trying to use Star
Office 5.2 for this, but the jury is still out on its suitability.
(3) a good mapping program - wish Delorme Street Atlas USA worked
in Linux. Looking up and navigating maps over the internet using a 56 K modem
is not good enough.
(4) better printer drivers which can exploit the printers'
full capabilities. Printouts on my HP2500c usually look better
when made in Windows. The Windows print dialog box lets me
choose paper tray, paper size, and color quality easily -- all in
one place.
