I tried LUpdate 3 times with same result, burnt the ISO and installed
the old fashioned way, and it boots fine.

So startd not launching must be some other file/permission
I used LUpdate to create a b114 BE on the spare X4540, and booted it,
but alas, I get the following message on boot:
