continue using rsync between a ZFS pool and an LVM2 pool. At the very
least, have two ZFS pools.
For ZFS over iSCSI, have some zpool-layer redundancy

I currently use a Linux server w/ 8 disks (approx. 3Tb) as an
NFS/SAMBA/netatalk fileserver. I have a matching Linux server as a backup,
using nightly rsync jobs to keep the backup current. I use LVM, so replacing a
disk is doable, but kind of a pain. Also, I really wanted to use encrypted

Updates are generally functionality enhancements, which may well be
chargeable; whereas patches are problem-fixes; w

No. Pipes are a foundation of UNIX and are much more flexible
than a fixed file interface (as shown below.

There is an unsupported driver available though, I posted it to the forums a
few months ago:

This might be a dumb question, but isn't that going to be a big problem on a
busy pool?
I'm planning to use ZFS as a sync NFS fileserver and I'm expecting a fair bit
of traffic. Does that bug mean ZFS is going to have problems resilvering
failed disks on my system?

Hey Richard,
I've just seen that somebody else has been caught out by this. Do you think it
would be worth adding an RFE to add 'send to file' support to ZFS send?
I'll be using data piped to file myself, and while I'm not worried about
corruption myself, if ZFS send knows it's sending to a fi
Hey Miles,
Yes, you remembered right. If the zpool.cache file is there, Solaris will
mount the pool fine on boot with or without the slog. So if you're running a
slog, make sure you keep a backup of that file! I was told that work is being
done to make zpool import work the same way so pools
