Hello All,
I am trying to connect to a W2k server inside my office.
The problem is if the server is at the logon screen, VNC replies with
a VNC info window "Connection Closed". Howver, it seems that not
all of my servers exhibit this behaviour. If I have W2k with SP1 it
seems to work. With S
Nick,
Thanks for the suggestion. The server is set with a screen
resolution of 640x480 at 16colors. I rarely install any other video
drivers than the MS defaults on servers since I've been burned in
the past when loading vendor supplied drivers (you know the whole
fiasco with MS giving vide
If you uncheck allow localhost and it works, then there is
somethihng wrong in your SSH setup. Also when using NT,
I use the connect string of
ssh -L 5900:localhost:5900 -l username servername
I don't think you can use 5901 on NT because it only supports 1
virtual display. 590x is valid for
I read as a security measure to change the operational port of VNC.
How is this done in NT/2k?

Where or how does the VNCviewer keep track of the recently
accessed hosts? I have some testing machines in my list that I
would like to clear out.

IN the VNC addons, there is a note on restricting access via IP
using TCP wrappers. However there is a disclaimer at the top
saying VNC server has similar functionality built in, but no details on
how to use it. Anyone have any information on doing this?
Thanks

Thanks to all that have replied thus far. However, my issue is that
all the documentations describe "how-to" on *nix environments.
While this can get a person started with key generation and
placement, some information is completely irrelevant such as
permissions and file locations. There
Looks like it could affect a lot more than VNC so that is probably the
least of your worries if you are exposing systems using zlib to the
internet. Seems like if you're running SSH it likely would protect you
from any exploit of zlib.

Where can I get the video driver by Rudi De Vos?
I cannot seem to find anything other than a passing mention of its
existence with no link to where I can get it?
Thanks!

This is really kind of bad news that Anti-virus vendors are classifying
VNC as a Trojan. It then becomes difficult to know if your VNC
installation has been replaced by a real Trojan or is infected by a
real virus. No answers for this problem, just an observation.
-
Well, I've never had my AV software (Sophos) detect it as a virus.
I'm just waiting to see how many AV vendors jump on the
bandwagon. Seems like there's been quite a few reports in here
lately about the winvnc.dll being reported as infected. As I recall
both mentioned the big Mc as the culp

This is strictly my opinion but...
The best thing about VNC is it is free and source code is available
if you feel the need to alter it. It is also a fairly tight little program in
regards to size and performance I think at last test it performed
only second to Citrix. It's leading competito
