Running any flavor of VNC client on WinXP and trying to connect to a Win9x VNC
server over the internet results in a forced reboot on the client PC. This
problem is occurring on both of my XP machines, but only seems to happen when

Am I to believe that no one here has had problems using VNC on XP? Surely
not...
Let's try this one more time...

The ICS Configuration program you linked to works wonderfully for handling
the 98se/ME port forwarding issues. The only drawback is it will require a
reboot after making the configuration changes. I've been using it for quite
some time. I would highly recommend it above playing with the registr
Win98 SE does have built-in ICS. It will be fairly easy to forward the
ports to the internal system. I, personally, use ICS Configuration program
that can be downloaded from here...

Here is the INF file that includes some brief notes in the comments.
Remember, this INF needs to be installed into the registry of the ICS
server, not your client. So access to the server is still needed. To
install, just right-click on the VNC.INF file and select Install. Do verify

Now, now, nowLet's not jump to conclusions. My gateway is a WinME system
and goes many months between reboots. Even then, it's just for maintenance or
upgrade issues. It's all in the tuning... :-)

I have used VNC to peek on someone playing an FPS shooter, like Unreal
Tournament or Elite Force, and other graphic-intense games. The result is
usually the same with most DirectX-related software -- the image is wrapped
and overlaid in a weird fashion in that you really can't make out too many

I've been using it on Windows XP Home, but not without an occasional problem.
As a server, it works very well, but I have had it reboot spontaneously when
using Tight encoding with TightVNC. As a client it seems to be a little more
troublesome when connecting to Win9x servers. Again, the error i

Greg's main problem is that he is not permitted to alter the server system in
any way, which makes any type of port forwarding impossible. Without access
to the server, there is no optionethically, that is. He has the tools,

Hi Kim...
I can help with your ICS issues concerning VNC. What I need is some more
info. To sum up your previous message, I understand this...
Server Machine: Win98+, two nics, using ICS.
Question: Have you opened and redirected ports for Client1 on this
server?
Client1: Static IP, VNC
I don't know, but wasn't it Mr. Gates that called Linux a virus? Maybe MS
could put pressure on Norton AV to detect Linux systems on the network??

I've noticed the same problems when running TightVNC v1.2.3 on Win2K and
WinXP machines. At the risk of getting shot by Mr. Kaplinsky, try
uninstalling TightVNC 1.2.3 and revert to version 1.2.2, if it's still
available. That has seemed to eliminate the connection problems for us
here.

Just for curiosity, what version of VNC were you installing?
