i do not know if this helps, but i seem to remember that if during the login phase you switch resolutions then the vncviewer will be disconnected. so say on your real windows machine you have the login screen running at 1024xwhatever and after you log in the user has it set to 1200xwhatever then

I had a similar problem connecting to a Compaq server runing W2K until I dropped the resolution on the server to 640x480 so I could get 256 colors. VNC would drop the connection any time the server was set to 16 colors. Sounds like you might be hitting a similar problem. The solution of going to a
