You hit the nail on the head as far as general implications of the wording go; I
think my points from the "Newbie question" post make some sense based on
paranoia about implications of workstation multi-user access.

Short story Nathan is - it will be a bleeding mess with VNC - but it is the very
best of the possible choices for your type of situation.
In terms of raw connectivity and reliability, VNC is absolutely superb when
configured correctly - particularly when using a lightweight recent version such

You can try running
winvnc.exe -install
It might *not* run properly as a service though; there are possibly quirks to
how it would have to deal with support before a user is logged on..

Heya. Quick suggestion: you have to restart your VNC
server after you change the AuthHosts setting. It reads those
settings on startup, *not* when a connection initiates. I
believe that TightVNC is smarter than this, but I've not found
a way to force AT&T VNC to re-read those settings

Heya. Yes, Kaboodle makes use of the Gnutella protocol in
(what I think is) an interesting way. It goes like this:
Kaboodle's key feature (which will be part of 1.0, and
only works somewhat in 0.80) is a "personal VPN" capability. It's
a VPN-like technology targeted for use
My understanding (and I'm certainly NOT a lawyer) is that this stuff is
technically illegal for a monopoly (in the US at least). But my personal
thought is that this wording is in their legal document in the future event
that it is enforceable. OK, so a change in law may not be retro-active, but

I just asked this a little while ago (2 weeks or so), so the info is
fresh in my mind.
The answer, No, there is no VNC DOS client.
You may wish to try the patch done by Rudi De Vos ([EMAIL PROTECTED]).
There are some problems such as changing screen resoulition, but if you work
around these, I have found this version works much faster as well as being
able to handle screen updates much more efficiently.
Thank You Rudi

But can it run as a service? I downloaded it, but don't see how to make it
run as a service.

Install the service on the remote machine. Then you will be able to connect
to it regardless if someone or who ever is logged in. Se the FAQ for
installing as a service.

There is one other implementation like that - an ActiveX control called VNCX -
but since it has an older zlib which is vulnerable to an exploit and is not
cross-platform anyway, the Java applet is the way to go.
