Ok, I changed the file as you have down and restarted vnc but when I log
in I get a screen that looks like it has a cris-cross weaving pattern on
the screen. I can't right-click or left-click. Does it matter if I am
logged in on the Linux box and in KDE or does this not have an effect on
vnc?

What is "the console from the linux-server"? I presume it's not w
It didn't work in either situation (or only worked for a short while).

Which distribution of VNC server are you using?
A "general" method for pushes to NT (should work for 2000/XP also) is on the
Extras page; see

Tips:
(1) Wear reading glasses to work. Whenever someone with "purchasing authority"
walks by, squint and ask them to read a line off your monitor to you.
(2) Anonymously email messages to HR with subjects like "Eyestrain: The Fastest
Growing Workman's Comp Claim!"
(3) Loosen your monitor cable.
It turns out that all of the "good" stuff has been done on policy-based setting
of the WinVNC server configuration. At this point, there is nothing I can
value-add to the material already collected by Daniel QUinlan (and even Andrew
Stockton has done some policy stuff).

I found previous messages posted as "windows layer storage/transmission" where
the idea was to keep an image of each window instead of the whole screen,
improving switching between windows, etc.
Doing so would also be great for another reason: transparent (also known as

Can't you use the "full screen" feature and solve that problem?
Now it doesn't exactly work for resolutions larger than your own, obviously,
but for up to the same size it does.
Cheers,
John

OK guys, only slightly off topic. I keep my monitor at 1024 x 768.
When I view a screen that is set to 800 x 600, no problem. When I view a
screen that is 1024 x 768 my screen becomes like a blivitt! (That's 5
pounds of fertilizer in a 2 pound bag.) What I mean is that my screen is

Mike...
I've noticed the same problems when running TightVNC v1.2.3 on Win2K and
WinXP machines. At the risk of getting shot by Mr. Kaplinsky, try
uninstalling TightVNC 1.2.3 and revert to version 1.2.2, if it's still
available. That has seemed to eliminate the connection problems for us
here.
thanks, i'll try that.
the tightVNC server provides a "advanced" configuration dialog that allows
the setting of "connection priority" (corresponds to ConnectPriority
registry key) to either "disconnect existing connections" (current),
"automatic shared sessions", or "refuse concurrent connection
sorry, i made a mistake. it turns out that if i leave the machine running
the server logged into a winxp session, than i am able to establish a vnc
connection/session without any problems.

Probably, you have already figured out that vnc-list software strips all

Hello,
I have a similar experience in my company. I followed the
instructions in the documentation and created an *.iss file. I would
recommend setting up a log-on script to run a batch file that installs the
hooks *.reg file, then runs the silent install. If you want you can also

Daniel,
This puzzles me and I have no idea how to correct, perhaps someone else has
taken a look and could be of further assistance.
One last question, if you type in the http://ip#:5800 directly does it work
?

Hate to say this, but you may be jumping the gun, trying to run before you
can walk so to speak.
Given your admitted lack of network experience, can I suggest buying a book
or two on networking basics. That way, when you come back to this, you may
have more success.

Hello all,
what ist the right procedure if I want to rollout VNC to hundred

and are not allowed to install it as a service (because of system
ressources) Only if needed a User should start the VNC connection

Do you know unix / linux a little? Then you could find out yourself. ~ is
shorthand for the user's home directory.
Have you read the documentation? Then you should know. If a user starts
