Thanks all for helping me fix my VNC problem. I did get it to
work...however, I can't get any programs to run. When I log in I see the
desktop and icons but all the programs I try always crash as soon as I run
them. In fact when I connect I am always greeted by a dialog box that says:
Klipper
One further note on my crashing problem. I just noticed that it's not the
individual programs crashing. It's something called The KDE Splash Screen.
Anybody know what that is?
Thanks

Try this...
Open a command prompt.
Browse to the directory where vncviewer is located. (Maybe move it to a
nicer location...like c:\vncviewer\)
At the command prompt type 'start vncviewer {machinename/ipaddress}'
This way does not create an entry in

I have used your suggestion successfully from Linux to Windows and between

'File not Found' message on the screen.
Any Ideas as to why?

This is what I do...

Oh well... I was hoping for a switch somewhere.

Hi, I understand I can't run multiple clients for one server with WinVNC.
However, I found that if I start a new client, it will automatically kill
the old one. This is annoying because your colleagues might not know you are
using it. Is there anyone to avoid this. For example, after I start my

Yes, it's for the VNC Sever.
The explanation is, that due to the port forwarding performed
by SSH, the actual (could say physical) connection to
the VNC Server is done from the SSH server. As Neal says,
both SSH Server and VNC Server run on the same
Hi Matt,
I think you would have to remove the code in vncviewer that displays the
host name. I'm not a programmer, so I don't know how to do that.
BTW, why do you want to remove the machine name from there? Just curious.
Bye,
Karen.

Thanks for everyones help in this matter.
But I am afraid I am getting confused.
I am running VNC server and SSH server on the same computer, waiting for
connections. I am only using Vnc viewer on another machine to connect. I
was under the impression that I had to change the registry setting on
Hi,
We submited the message below, and found the reason for the "connection
closed" message.
It does not have anything to do with passwords or the login itself. Just set
your screen to at least 256 colors and that is it!

Hi Shaddy
I am also using Solaris 7/Win98 and I have solved my login problem using what you
have mentioned in the other mail, that is, to use a script to restart the server
whenever it is down. I agree that it does not seem too be an elegant solution, but
nevertheless, it works. One point f

Hmmm. When you connect to the remote computer, are you logged on as a user
with the right permissions? You should be able to do anything that you would
be able to do if you were using the machine locally with the same
permissions.

Hi, Neal.
I have just tested it on my VNC Server running on W2K Pro and
it works just fine. Being rather Unix oriented, I perhaps used
an incorrect wording when talking about creating a "key" in
the registry. I should have said "create the following dword value
in the registry:"
