Hello,
I am looking for a compile binary for Xvnc for vnc 4.1.1 for an IBM box running
AIX 5.3 or 4.3.3. Would anyone be able to send it to
me?
If possible, uuencode it first.
Thanks!
tom

RE: Trying to build the VNC 4.1.1free edition from source on IBM RS6000 using
AIX 5.2.
I've now tried this with XFree86 versions 4.5.0, 4.3.0, 4.2.1, all with the
same (no good) results. Somehow it is not picking up that
it is supposed to compile vnc files too.
And the ibmLib.rules all have the
No one has responded (save James) to my note about VNC for AIX. I've tried
everything I can think of. Is there any guidance anyone
can give me at all? I figured that for all the thousands of
VNC users somebody somewhere had similar problems.
I did try going back to AIX 4.3.3 by installing gcc
I will start from scratch and verify no files were overwritten when unpacking
etc. I absolutely know the patch was applied. I
checked file-by-file and line-by-line.
thanks
tom
I have verified no files were overwritten and the patch applied properly. It
won't compile.
I have brought in the xorg version and am attempting that.

You are correct, it will not build the X as it is.
I downloaded xorg and its ibm related files are *very* different and I am
attempting the build with that package right now. Will keep
you posted.
Can you tell me what version of gcc you use?
Thanks
.
I was finally able to build VNC 4.1.1 for AIX 5.2. I used gcc 3.3.2, GNU make
3.80, the ibm.cf, ibmLib.rules and ibmLib.tmpl config
files from Xorg and parts of the hpux_gcc.patch. So far so good.
But I was hoping this build would fix some color problems with running VNC to
the AIX machine and
No, -8 does not fix the problems. to even get the blue letters on a black
background requires that I set it to -depth 8. The
"normal" color for letters in that area is white on a gray background. But all
this is for certain areas of the CATIA window. The
drawing window where your model is dis
James,
I ran the xdypinfo as you suggested, and they are different...but I don't know
which things are important. I attach the 2 screen
ouputs and maybe you (or anyone :)
can spot the problem and tell me if VNC can deal with it in some
fashion..time passes.I can't send them as attachmen
Susanta,
You don't say what compiler you are using, but being linux I suspect gcc. What
I had to do was use parts of the hpux_gcc.patch (use
everything that doesn't pertain to hp).
Then the libxnc.a gets created.
Also, VNC 4.1.1 source code is available. Might want to get the latest.

I was trying Xfree 4.2.1 before. Sorry bout the bad info.
I can build XFree86 4.3.0 without VNC 4.1.2 and it goes all the way through and
I end up having various excutables in
programs/Xserver.
If I then add in te VNC, I get no executables.
Should I have LD_LIBRARY_PATH set to anything? It see

I am back to needing to compile this myself on AMD x86_64. The pre-built
binaries work but do not have GL compiled in.
Any specific gcc I should use (I have 3.4.6)? Is there a way to tell gcc to
use the 32 bit stuff only?
I can compile XFree86 4.3.0 all the way without vnc, but not with it. I
I have compiled vnc 4.1.2 for Linux (amd x86_64) but have the following
question:
It works fine if I use vncserver and start Xvnc manually on the Linux box and
then connect from a remote computer
to the : it comes up with.
But if I try to set it up to fire up as -inetd, it says: "reading versio
This has been solved. My sys admin found that the system couldn't find
libstdc++.so files when ran with inetd.
So he fixed that up and all is well.

I compiled VNC 4.1.2 (free edition) for Linux AMD x86_64 and attempted to add
the GL extension and the PEX extension.
All compiled fine.
However, when I connect to this Xvnc, and then do an xdpyinfo, I now see the GL
extension as loaded but not anything
relating to PEX. Shouldn't that be listed
John,
For the first problem, did maybe the ~/.vnc/xstartup files change? That is
where the CDE would start vs plain X.
For the second, here is the steps I did to compile on AIX 5.2. Maybe AIX 5.3
would be the same???
1) http://www.realvnc.com/cgi-bin/download.cgi get sourcode for unix

The biggest speed problem I had was when using different versions of VNC for
the viewer vs the server.
You should verify you are running the latest version on each end.

Can anyone give me a method to have a log file of the startup when using inetd?
Also, I should have noted that this is the 4.1.2 Free Edition.
thanks
