The unix version of this is that you should explicitly state your
encoding methods when using ssh, since if you don't, it'll assume
the connection is local, and thus compression and re-expansion is
a waste of time, and thus it'll use &quo
/IP to
"private" addresses (ie, 10.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x). If it's
allowed, it's certainly the simplest way. But often it's either
not allowed, or not practical (eg if there are private addresses
in your corporate web you need to access).
Something to check out, t

All the packets you send to the internet then bounce via your corporate
net which VPN is active, but locally on the lan, anybody can talk to
anybody freely, and VNC can thrive. A nice solution IF it's available.
