Hi,
I have two computers, one with a dial-up modem and
another with ADSL hi-speed connetion, both of them
have WinXP and only WinXP 'built-in' firewall. But
when I try to connect them through VNC, it always give
me the 'connection timed out' error and refuses to
connect. Is there something I forgo
yes i did everything but still was not able to connect.
I have stopped the VNC service and now running the user mode of it. And it
works fine.
Not sure whats the reason when i run it as service, I'm not able to connect
via VNC viewer.

did you try connecting to it while the PC, which has vncserver, is booted in
safe mode?

I'm faced with the following situation... I have to access some Solaris
boxen
and Linux boxen, but my home directory is in shared storage that is
nfs-mounted to them all... So regardless of which server I'm on, I have the
same .vnc directory, with one
Allow VNC Viewer and server through the XP firewall. Also, you may have
problems depending on your ISP.

I need to be able to change the VNC password but the "properties" is
grayed out and when in DOS I receive the following message when I run
winvnc -settings:
This machine has been preconfigured with WinVNC settings, which
cannot be overridden by individual users. The preconfigured settings
Hello, Wez:
Thanks. I got it fixed. Now, I can use my browser to remotely view the
native display of my vncserver.
I edited the XF86Config file in "/etc/X11" directory by adding the following
line to the Screen section:
Option "httpd""/usr/share/vnc/classes"
where "/usr/share/
Hi,
Have you checked that your VNC Server Service-Mode configuration is sane?
In particular, what port is your VNC Server configured to use when in
Service-Mode?

Debi,
Firstly, you are using a very old and out of date version of VNC Server.
Your system administrator appears to have configured your server so that
users cannot alter the settings. You will need to ask them to enable
modification of the settings for you.

Brad,
Are you sure that the SunOS clause is being run?
Why are you not simply running dtsession directly: /usr/dt/bin/dtsession?
What happens if you run it directly from within your window-managerless VNC
desktop?

Here is mine. It works fine on Solaris 8 & 10, as well as Linux:
#!/bin/sh
# Red Hat Linux VNC session startup script
[ -r $HOME/.Xresources ] && xrdb $HOME/.Xresources
xsetroot -solid grey
xterm -geometry 80x24+10+10 -ls -title "$VNCDESKTOP Desktop" &
vncconfig -nowin&
Greetings,
I've just downloaded VNC 4.1.1 for evaluation. We've used VNC 3.3.6
for quite a while and are generally familiar with operations. I'm having
trouble with 4.1.1 exiting Fullscreen mode. In 3.3.6 I could just hit
CTRL-Esc and it would bring my local taskbar to the foreground wh

Because, if you want a session that is as close to a real CDE login
session, there is alot more that /usr/dt/Xsession does than just ru

David,
As described in the documentation, the Fullscreen option is available from
the F8 menu within VNC Viewer.

We have a remote user running VNC 4.1.1 on a Win XP Pro machine. He
connects to our office network through a VPN connection. In the office,
nearly all machines have VNC Server running, most 3.3.7 with a couple
4.0 and a couple 4.1.1. These are mostly XP Pro with a handful of other
OS versions su
Try specifically adding the VNC Server executeable as "permitted" in the
firewall. For some reason, that seems to work better than just specifying
port 5900.
