When you start a vnc viewer, make sure it's in "shared" mode. This will make
sure that existing viewers are left open.

Hi,
I have successfully installed realvnc 3.3.7 on winxp. When i playback
the screen saver using vnc viewer from linux, it is too slow. I have
tried combination of various encodings like raw, copyrect. I have also
tried combination of various colors, but the effect is same. I have
tried rawdelay o

Is it really so important to have a remote screen saver be played correctly in
local computer? Seriously, if nobody is before the screen, does it matter if it's a
colorful screen saver or just a blank screen?

AFAIK, VNC doesn't meddle with Windows' security.
When your problem occurs, have you tried to close the viewer and restart it
again? On the other hand, is your XP pro patched with SP1 and hotfixes if you think
it's a security issue? Or does it have memory problem? And have you
Andy,
If you want to use a V3 viewer and a V4 server then do so. The viewer and
server needn't be the same version.
Yes, VNC 4 and VNC 3 can coexist, provided you configure them for different
network ports.

But the way to configure XP's firewall is out of my capability 'cause I don't
use it. Here's a URL on it. Hope it helps:

Point. In a real time, screen saver or blank screen, it does not matter.
But,
What platforms for server and client? What version for server and client?
What network connection, LAN or Internet? For Internet, any firewall/router in
between?
Check everything from the very beginning:
1. use ping to see if both machines are communicating properly
2. use tel

I've just spotted the word "daemon". I'm afraid you've mixed up viewer and
listening viewer. Look at your system tray, do you already have a listening viewer
there? Look careful the letter V, it's red instead of green. It's the listening
viewer's icon.
Look and read carefull
You could use "Poll Full Screen":

but be aware that your server will then be sending a lot of useless updates
and thus its responsiveness will be decreased a lot. You could use 8-bit color to
partially compensate this loss of performance.

I can't seem to even get vncviewer to connect to vnc server. I am going
through a firewall, and I have ports 5900-5902 open for three separate
servers. The display numbers are all set accordingly. I guess the problem
here is that I don't know what IP address to use. I've tried the router,

To know the public IP address, you could go to this URL which, in the same
time, could help you check if your config is correct.

Hi therei have a couple of questions: firstly, what technical reasons
are behind VNC not supporting audio (sound)?...and the second is does VNC
support video?because while im testing vnc on two windows machines and i

Ok, the first solution runs perfectly.
Thank you very much for your help!

Just a little problem...
I launch the vncserver on the linux server and the vncviewer (command vncviewer with
the "shared connections" option) on the linux server and the windows client. When I
use the mouse on the desktop, it's runs perfectly but when I use the keyboard

I am trying to use VNC to capture demonstrations of a Mac and recording
them on a PC. Everything works great but I cannot see the mouse pointer
when the user at the Mac is working. Is there a way to view the server's

Just to follow on to what Wez says here, you may not enjoy the optimal
performance in this situation. In order to see the best performance,
using 4.0 Windows clients with 4.0 servers (I only care about servers
running on UNIX) is the best way to go.

Hello All,
I am new to RealVNC, and have been using it quite a lot. I am running in to a

from another system on the network, the viewer closes out after seconds. this
also happens when viewing it via browser.

other clients can join using vncconnect.

I just wanted to check since I was doing the install remotely, and I didn't want to
