Hallo!
I have a Dial-up Netrworking entry [..] named "ECRadio" with all [..]
defined, [..] click directly [..] dials up appropriately.
But when I start up WINVNC Viewer, and it asks for the server to
connect to, I run into trouble. I type in "ECRadio" correctly, and
Make sure you forward both sets of ports ( they come in pairs
if you use the internal http server / applet )
Pretty basic stuff you ask here

The name of your Dial-Up Connection is not the name of your server.
You'll either need to type in that computer's IP address or the actual
name of the computer, if it's on your network.

The VNC service is installed properly, but won't start after reboot before
anyone logs on. In the service manager the service configuration is set to
automatically and I also set the default password. Do I have to make any
changes to the registry?

William,
Thanks. The windows "File Sharing" issue makes sense.
It's not my network. It's my wife's daughter and son-in-laws (and grand
kids). They are some distance away and I didn't want to make a special trip
without some hope of success.

Many thanks to Michael Roland and David Lambert for their
comments. Indeed, both the name of the target computer, which is running
WinVNC, and its Dial Up Connection in my client computer are

Register yourself with one of the dynamic dns providers (dyndns.org,
zoneedit.org, no-ip.com, etc.) You can have a domain name like
ecradio.dyndns.org (or whichever service you use).
Download an appropriate dns client to update the dns server with your ip as
it changes.

This is going to be a bit long, so please bear with
me...
I'm having a problem getting VNC to work via a remote
forwarded SSH tunnel from my computer at work to a
computer at home, and I'm hoping someone can give me
some direction. All machines involved are running the
latest VNC server and viewer
William Hooper's suggestion will work 90% of the time in my situation. The
host computer is unattended 90 % of the time, awaiting potentially some
dozen clients calling in (never simultaneously). To make it easy for them,
I can instruct them to make a fixed address entry in their Hosts file,
