I would copy a default registry file (e.g. vnc_default_password.reg)
to the remote machine.
Wonder how you 'install the vnc service ... over a telnet connection.' Can
you explain how you do that?

Hi all,
For those who don't already know, I've released my own VNC distibution that features:
- Significant performances improvements (light speed over LAN connections ;-)
- Integrated FileTransfer
- Server Screen Scaling for bandwidth saving
- Easy viewer configuration
- And more.

You're close, but you don't get a cigar. :-)
The password should go into the "local machine" part of the registry:

Hello,
I am going to take a shot it this one. I am sure someone will
correct me if I am wrong. You need to put the password in the registry in
the hexadecimal format. Put it in a machine locally using the tool bat
control panel and copy the Hex equivalent on paper. Then put that into th
The HKLM Hive of the registry would contain the password for the VNC server
if it is ran as a service. However you can't type in the password directly,
as it's DES3 encrypted. If you knew the encrypted value, you could use
regedit to enter the value, or just make a reg file and import it.

I've downloaded and built the pre-release version of these tools. I've only

Like many others, I've been hit by the "killed
wallpaper bug" which while its a good idea seems like
there is a big bug in the code for restoring the
wallpaper.
I am administering a farm of 300+ servers, mostly NT4.
I use VNC for some basic remote control. I like VNC,
its a pretty good program.
While this may not be exactly what you are trying to do, there should be enough info..

Sounds nice. But... Does it come with efficient compression for low
bandwidth connections, too? :) Like TightVNC :)
With that feature added, it would be the best of all flavours, I think.

Hi!
I used to use vnc from home to connect to a linux server or a
windows 2000 PC at work. I was using windows 98 SE.
I made a poor choice of operating systems, and upgraded to Windows ME.
Now, vnc has stopped working. This is what happens:
1) Start vncviewer or tightvnc
2) Enter machine IP ad
I looked at this earlier ( i think ), but it was only Win32 at the time,
has this plan changed any?
Hmm incompatiblites between versions too i see..

On Solaris I don't run the server with the perl script, so I can specify

And then looked in the perl script, you will find the line you need to

I have to say that YES it does have the tightvnc encoding.
I have been using this version for two weeks now and am enjoying it, but
am worried that native vnc clients won't be able to connect (or cause a
security problem).
I really think that Realvnc should pick up Tightvnc and the file
transfer,
