Hi!

I used to use vnc from home to connect to a linux server or a
windows 2000 PC at work. I was using windows 98 SE.
I made a poor choice of operating systems, and upgraded to Windows ME.

Now, vnc has stopped working. This is what happens:

1) Start vncviewer or tightvnc
2) Enter machine IP address and display number for the windows 2000 machine
3) Enter password
4) Please wait - Initial screen loading
5) ReadExact: Read Socket Error, and the vnc window dies.

I can do the same sequence to the vncserver running on my
windows machine and it works just fine. No ReadSocket error.

I can ping all the machines involved just fine.

Also, I was able to use vnc for both the vnc servers (linux and windows 2000)
when I had windows 98 on my machine.

Somebody told me that it may be a hardware problem, so I replaced
my Ethernet card with a brand new linksys card, but it did not make a difference.

Due to some other reasons, going back to windows 98 is not an option for me.

Please help!
Thanks!
-Jayesh
