Firstly, you should upgrade to VNC Free Edition 4.1.2, to avoid the security
issue in version 4.1 & 4.1.1.
Secondly, you should either use a security-enabled build of VNC (Enterprise
or Personal Editions) or tunnel connections to your server via another
protocol such as SSH.
A log file can
VNC 4 normally output to system logs, visible via Event Viewer. But
I understand that it would be nice if we could make it output log to file.

If you're using Windows, I'd recommend upgrading to VNC 4b4, which will log
errors, connections, etc to the application event log.
Or are you using Un*x as the server?
