There are a number of measures you can take to mitigate the risk of running an internet-exposed VNC server.. 1. Make absolutely certain you are running the most current version. Older versions, even one x.x.1 older, are known to contain severe security flaws. 2. Ensure you have a strong password.

Have you tried changing the password? vnc server lets you see the list of vnc viewers connected to it. I think if you right click on the vnc icon in the system tray (of the XP machine) you can find the option. the next time it happens you can find out the ip from which the connection is made. ano
