that is not validi would not use it cause mail will not accept that
anyhow...

We had a 900 user vpasswd file disappear on us, running
an old 4.9.3 version. We don't know why. Either a disk
error occurred (when the machine rebooted fsck complained
about missing inodes, etc). Or there was a race condition
of more than one program trying to add a new user.

Typically, as with most qmail related problems the best source of
information is first from your logs.
Look for the error in your logs the look on the qmail or vpopmail list
archives for that error, that should be a good start.

with those two and have been having some trouble.
I'm running qmailadmin 0.38 on a machine using vpopmail
4.9.6-1 and I have the latest ezmlm-idx 0.324 set up.

I just compiled and installed vpopmail-4.9.6-1. Now as root I am trying
to create a new domain. It asks for the postmaster's password twice and
seems to run normally. When it's done, I end up with
/home/vpopmail/domains/domain.com:
-rw--- 1 vpopmail vchkpw 0 Dec 2 12:24 .dir-co
I have started tcpservers with -x option for smtp :
tcpserver -H -R -x /home/vpopmail/etc/tcp.smtp 0 smtp
/var/qmail/bin/qmail-smtpd
And it works fine . But I created "tcp.smtp" file with tcprules. But
tcprules has a difficulty with vpopmails "open-smtp". This is the output
