I've to build Apache (...) and mod_jk on a 64-bit SuSE Linux, but for
32-bit. While a lot of OpenSource packages, including Apache
httpd-2.4.18, are building fine, the tomcat_connector-1.2.41 is
unwilling to create the mod_jk.so file. The full configure and build log

I didn't check with 1.2.15, but at least for 1.2.19 this is a solaris
build for Apache 2.2 and your method works. Maybe your file is corrupt?

I may be wrong but I am not sure if your mod_jk actually got compiled.
mod_jk.so should be placed where the rest of your modules are.
Here is the description of the compilation process on Red Hat and where
mod_jk.so should end up:
