Eventually, I tried the 4.1.1 version from winpenpack and no change at all,
even with lowering the macro security option.

Rory, thanks. Great info. Just bought HP Notebook with SSD drive. Much quicker,
but looks like recovering stuff is iffy per you email info. I downloaded ODT
file recovery program from the net. Hopefully useful if needed in future.

Open Office types the word Mac every time I type was. I would like to fix this

Tools > AutoCorrect Options
On the Replace tab
Search for was and see if it's there.
If it is showing as a replacement with MAC, highlight it (select it) and
click on Delete.
