3 years. I tried to open this year's spreadsheet today, but it asked me to
register with my first and last name, and initials. When I tried to open the
spreadsheet after that, I got a message saying that it was locke

There is probably a lock file left.
Quick workaround is to save it with an other name or save in an other directory.

I have this one file in Word 97-2003 format. Repeated attempts at opening it
just create locked versions of the file. I have tried ALL methods of
rectifying the locked file issue, and nothing worked. I even updated to 4.1.1
and, still nothing.

Not really an Apache OpenOffice issue, but since you are unfamiliar with
your new computer I will try and help you get started. Rather than bore

Thanks, I am in a new computer that is way unfamiliar to me. Reading
your comments below, it only allows me to log in one way. Last question
I will bother you with. Can I get to a tab that allows me to be

Windows UAC (User Access Control).
Are you running/logged-in as an "Administrator" with elevated
privileges, or as a "Standard" user with normal privileges? If you saved

When I do that, a box comes up with the following..

I am unable to help but I have a suggestion - provide the system on the
new computer and whether you downloaded from Open Office's site
(http://www.openoffice.org/). This will give those who can help
information they need.
