No, Kay, your documents will remain where they are and be accessible in the usual way. I upgrade when every new version comes out and have never lost a document. Be sure though to ONLY download from the official site www.openoffice.org as using a third party site can cause problems. Good luck T

It is much easier to do in DRAW. You can create a text box, enter the text then find the "effects" button at the bottom of the screen. One of the options will be "rotate", click that and when you put your cursor at the corner of the box you will be able to rotate it to whatever angle you wish.
