I have several documents created 10 years ago etc. with Open Office. Now i’m

I have tried to do this with no success, will it download while I am using

AOO can read .docx but not save ( at least my install). I think Libre
Office can do both.
If I get a .docx file that I need to modify I just save as .doc and the
receiver can read the .doc file.
Others more learned can explain the difference between .doc and .docx.

Why doesn't OpenOffice support saving document files as .docx?
Suddenly dictionary/spell checker in writer seems OK in spread sheet
I have uninstalled o/office then downloaded latest version and reinstalled it.
Still no dictionary/spell checker all words underlined “NOT IN DICTIONARY”

as, in your case you want to save the documents as a *.doc file.
The longer fix is to change OO defaults to always Save As *.doc not *.odt.

My machine runs W8.1 and has no trouble opening .xslx or .docx files
using AOO 4.1.1. Just checked it again. Perhaps there is something not
related to the different software that is causing the problem?

had has been with word docs with text boxes. The formatting didn't
translate very well at all, boxes all over the place and different

I have Apple Mac OSX 10.7.5.
Since I upgraded to Openoffice Version 4 I have noticed that this
application is very much slower than the previous Openoffice version 3
which I was using, particularly when saving or closing, but also on opening.
How do I return this version to the response the
