If your old hard disk is undamaged, you can still recover your data.
It is enough to connect it to any compatible computer with the 'slave'
setting and copy the data to a removable flash drive. These are also other

I'm gonna add a few more useful remarks, I think:
1) To uninstall OpenOffice use an advanced uninstaller such as Revo

This can be related also to the file proprieties. I had a similar problem
when transferring pictures. Please check them (right click, proprieties and
check if the files are locked for update or not). The lock can be at the
file level or directory level or both.
