I f you can see the properties you can uncheck the read only attribute.

After software unpacks and begins install, program freezes. tried to

Couldn't you simply OPEN and SAVE files under new names anywhere you'd like
in your file structure (desktop, etc)? Then you can edit THOSE versions as
if you had authored them.

I understand you have to have administrative privileges to avoid this but
how do you switch to administrative privileges upon receiving the
"elevation" message?
